Vanessa Marcil was born in Indio, California, to the herbalist Patricia Marcil and the self-made businessman Pete Ortiz. Marcil’s father is Mexican, while her mother is of French and Italian descent. Vanessa went to Indio High School in Indio, California. She attended College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California, shortly after graduating from high school.
Before Marcil’s character was played in the soap opera General Hospital in 1992, she was involved in a number of theater shows.
