Former Ghana international and Chelsea Football Club legend, Michael Essien has leapt to the defence of the LGBTQI community in Ghana.
The midfield maestro waded in on the ongoing topic which has so far divided opinions among many Ghanaians. The country of Ghana is now divided on opinions concerning the LGBTQI group emerging in the country. The majority are against it while certain individuals are advocating for its legalization.
In a post on Instagram, Michael Essien called for more support for gays and lesbians in Ghana, insisting they must be heard. Sharing his support, he added a pictured of inscribed words with Ghana colours and captioned it;
”We see you, we hear you, we support you. Our LGBTQIA plus Community in Ghana #ghanasupportequalityGH”.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid star joins celebrities like Idris Elba, Naomi Campbell and Juliet Ibrahim among others who are in support of it. Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared that his government is against the LGBTQI+.
