Adolphus Wong passed away on March 31, 2011 at the age of 74. He was Chinese-American and while he was alive, he worked as an anesthesiologist at Kaiser Hospital for 30 years.

Adolphus Wong grew up in a one-bedroom apartment. “Even when I was struggling, he was so supportive,” Wong had once said about him.

She spoke about how her father would come to her “not-so-well-attended shows” to support her. He would stand up and wave his hands clasped together gesturing as if he had “just won the Indy 500 or conquered Mount Everest.”

“When he died, I was still struggling, and I’d think about him seeing that costume at the Smithsonian and he would probably be outside the museum every day,” Wong said.
