Ahmaud Arbery was a 25-year-old black man, who was a former high school football star and graduated in 2012. He lived in coastal Glynn County with his mother. Friends and family say he was an avid runner.
Ahmaud Arbery’s Killers And How He Was Killed
Ahmaud Arbery was out running in Brunswick early in the afternoon on February 23, 2020. During his run, he passed through Satilla Shores neighborhood where he was seen by Gregory McMichael. In a police report, ex-cop Gregory McMichael, 65, says he saw Mr. Arbery and believed he resembled the suspect in a series of break-ins, the BBC says.
He and his 35-year-old son armed themselves and pursued him in a pick-up truck, the indictment alleged.
In the police report, McMichael senior says he and his son had said: “Stop, stop, we want to talk to you.” Mr. Arbery had attacked McMichael junior, they said. Shots were fired, with Mr. Arbery falling to the street in the Satilla Shores neighborhood.
The incident was filmed.
The footage appears to show Mr. Arbery, who was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts, running past a truck. Two white men carrying guns are seen and shouting is heard.
