Dana Ann Remus is an American lawyer who is the current White House Counsel to the United States President Joe Biden. She has served as White House counsel to United States President Joe Biden since January 2021.
Remus served as general counsel for Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign before she was appointed White House counsel.
Previously, she served as deputy assistant to the president and deputy counsel for ethics during Barack Obama’s presidency, as general counsel for the Obama Foundation from 2017 to 2019, and as counsel to Michelle Obama.
What does the office of the White House counsel do?
The White House counsel is a senior staff member appointed by the president of the United States whose role is to advise the president on all legal issues about the president and their administration.
The White House counsel is also in charge of the Office of White House Counsel, which is a group of lawyers and support staff who provide legal advice to the president and the White House Office.
Although the White House counsel provides legal advice to the president and vice president, this is done in the president’s and vice president’s official capacity, not as the president’s attorney.
