According to Nadia Sawalha, Men are one of the reasons for her turbulent relationship with her sister. “We’ve had some hard times, but the culprit has always been men,” she once said.

Their relationship worsened in 2002 when Nadia referred to Julia’s then-boyfriend comic Alan Davies as a “miserable git” after he complained about photographs of him from Nadia’s wedding appearing in OK! magazine.

Following the comments, the sisters did not talk for about two years.They reconciled when Julia and Davies divorced in 2004. However, the relationship has remained tense since then, and the two do not see eye to eye.

The stormy connection between the sisters is thought to stem from their father Nadim’s wish to have strong independent daughters.

The sisters grew up in Croydon with their father Nadim and mother Roberta. Roberta suffered from postnatal depression after the birth of Julia, and she later sent Nadia to her grandmothers, which Nadia claims contributed to their bitter rivalry. The sisters have an on and off relationship.
