Why is Andrew Symonds called Roy?

Andrew Symonds was an Australian international cricketer, who played all three formats as a battling all-rounder. He was an essential member of two world cup winning squads.

Symonds played as a right-handed, middle-order batsman and alternated between medium pace and off-spin bowling. He was also notable for his exceptional fielding skills.

Why is Andrew Symonds called Roy?

Andrew Symonds got the nickname Roy during his childhood when his sports coach used to call him Roy for his likeness to former basketball player, Letroy Loggins.

Letroy Loggins is a former American-Australian Basketballer who played in the National Basketball League from 1981 to 2001.
