Aimee Harris, aged 41, received the sentence in federal court in New York on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Additionally, she will serve three months of home confinement.
Harris pleaded guilty in 2022 to a charge of conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines.
The Palm Beach, Florida resident admitted to receiving $20,000 from Project Veritas, an organization known for conducting hidden-camera stings targeting news outlets, government officials, and politicians.
The court also ordered Harris to forfeit the money. Judge Laura Taylor Swain condemned Harris’ actions as “despicable and consequently very serious.”
The incident occurred when Ashley Biden stored personal items, including her diary, at a house in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2020. Harris, who was allowed to stay at the property by its owner, discovered Biden’s belongings.

Along with a co-defendant, Robert Kurlander, Harris attempted to sell the diary to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. When unsuccessful, they turned to Project Veritas.
Kurlander, who also pleaded guilty, will be sentenced at a later date.
While investigating the charges, FBI agents searched the homes of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe and two employees. However, neither O’Keefe nor Project Veritas has been charged in the case.
Although Project Veritas did not publish the diaries, a different right-wing outlet later published what it claimed were the diaries, with minor redactions.
During her sentencing hearing, Harris apologized to the court and Ashley Biden.
In a sentencing memo, prosecutors emphasized that Harris was driven by both financial gain and political motives, asserting that exploiting personal belongings for political purposes was “wrong and illegal, no matter the political agenda.”
