After the Dwight Twilley Band disbanded, Twilley carried on as a solo performer, retaining Pitcock on lead guitar and including Susan Cowsill on harmony vocals. The album Twilley was released in 1979 by this line-up for Shelter/Arista, despite Seymour contributing background vocals to the album’s most popular song, “Darlin’.”

Despite having an Arista release number, Twilley’s follow-up album, Blueprint, co-produced by Jack Nitzsche, was turned down by the record label when the 1979 single “Somebody to Love” failed to chart. Twilley was unable to leave his Shelter until his contract expired at the end of 1981 because Blueprint was eventually never made public.
