The football world mourns the loss of a true legend, as Sam Ball, a distinguished offensive lineman for the Baltimore Colts and a former college football star with the Kentucky Wildcats, passed away on October 30, 2023, in his hometown of Henderson, Kentucky, at the age of 79.

Sam Ball’s journey in football was marked by dedication, resilience, and a remarkable talent for the game. His NFL career, which spanned from 1966 through 1970, saw him don the Baltimore Colts uniform, where he became a critical part of the team’s success.

One of the highlights of Sam Ball’s career was his participation in two Super Bowls. In 1969, he was the starting offensive right tackle for the Colts in Super Bowl III against the New York Jets. While the Colts did not claim victory in that match, Ball would have his moment of triumph two years later in Super Bowl V, where the team secured a Super Bowl ring.

Before making his mark in the NFL, Sam Ball played college football for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. His college career served as the foundation for his later success in professional football.
