The Hynes family welcomed their first bundle of joy, Sophia, in 2009. As a Ravenwood High School sophomore, Sophia is carving her own path with aspirations to pursue a career in healthcare, either as a nurse or a physician’s assistant.
The Hynes family expanded with the arrivals of Julia in 2006 and Anna in 2007. While their father is a prominent figure in the world of ice hockey, the younger Hynes girls have found their passion in volleyball, a sport that resonates with their mother, Sarah.
Julia, now a sophomore, took up volleyball after the family moved to Tennessee. In contrast, Sophia, the elder sister, had already ventured into volleyball during her eighth-grade year. The Hynes sisters bring their own flair to the sport, with Sophia dedicating all her time to volleyball, while Julia also explores lacrosse and basketball at Ravenwood.

John Hynes acknowledges the unique perspective fatherhood provides, especially when watching his daughters navigate the challenges of sports. He notes, “Watching my girls play, there is a little more perspective about what I do as a coach.”
“You see what your kids go through, how they deal with their coach or a coach deals with them. Whether they get playing time or not, or had a good game or bad game. I think, as much as you can, you try to remind people to celebrate those good moments. That’s what makes playing and coaching really fun.”
