Fresh off the heels of completing an extraordinary challenge of running seven ultra-marathons in seven days across the UK and Ireland, Kevin Sinfield is wasting no time getting back to work with the England rugby team this weekend.

Sinfield, serving as Steve Borthwick’s defense coach, achieved the remarkable feat by conquering marathons in Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, Brighton, and London, each completed in under four hours. The challenge, named 7in7in7, aimed to raise funds for motor neurone disease (MND) and surpassed its ambitious £777,777 target, with the proceeds benefiting organizations like the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

At the conclusion of his epic journey, Sinfield addressed the crowd outside Buckingham Palace, expressing his exhaustion and joy: “I’m knackered and delighted… We are all pretty shot. It takes a lot out of you. Not just the running, but the emotion of the week. There was a fair bit of pressure on us to complete it. When I reached the finish, my first thought was, ‘Thank God we are here.’ But we are obviously really proud. We are here because we want to raise money for people who need it. I feel a bit like the Ready Brek man because you get a glow about you because you are making a small difference.”

Now that the marathon challenge is behind him, Sinfield is turning his attention back to rugby duties. This weekend, he will resume scouting responsibilities as England players gear up for the opening round of the Investec Champions Cup.

Sinfield is scheduled to accompany Richard Wigglesworth at Sunday’s clash between Sale and Stade Francais in Manchester. Other members of the coaching staff will be strategically placed at various games over the weekend, with scrum coach Tom Harrison attending the Leicester versus Stormers match on Sunday, and head coach Steve Borthwick joining Richard Hill in Bath on Saturday for their fixture against Ulster.

Sinfield’s return to rugby scouting marks a swift transition from his recent fundraising endeavor, showcasing his commitment to both his coaching role and charitable efforts. His previous scouting outing was on November 24 when he attended the Gallagher Premiership game between Northampton and Harlequins. Just two days later, he was pictured at a training session with Manchester United Football Club, underscoring his versatile engagement with sports across different disciplines.
