The 45-year-old auctioneer is facing a total of five charges following an incident that led to police being called to his £1.5 million family home in June. Appearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, Hanson refuted two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, one count of controlling and coercive behavior, and two counts of assault by beating.
The alleged incidents, said to have occurred between May 2015 and June 2023, were denied by Hanson during the brief court hearing. He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Derby Crown Court on February 7 for the next stage of legal proceedings.

Hanson, who made his mark as an expert in ceramics and glass at Christie’s in 1999, gained widespread recognition when he first appeared on Bargain Hunt in 2002, becoming the youngest expert on the team at the age of 25.
The charges against Hanson were formally filed on December 14, and he has been cooperative throughout the investigation and legal process. In a previous statement, Hanson expressed his denial of the allegations and committed to full cooperation.
The police were summoned to Hanson’s six-bedroom Derbyshire home in the summer, where he resided with Rebecca, 40, since 2014. It is reported that Hanson has since relocated from the house.
The court proceedings are expected to shed light on the events surrounding the accusations against the well-known auctioneer.
