HBO’s comedy-drama, The White Lotus, was initially in discussions to cast Serbian actor Miloš Biković in its upcoming season. However, following his announcement in January, Biković has been removed from the series. The decision was prompted by criticism from Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, introducing a geopolitical element to the unfolding drama—similar to Melissa Barrera’s departure from Scream 7 due to her stance on the Palestine and Israel conflict.

In response to his abrupt dismissal, Biković voiced his concerns, expressing apprehension about the potential threat to the core principles of artistic freedom that such actions could pose.

The initial announcement in January revealed Miloš Biković as one of the cast members for Season 3 of Mike White’s The White Lotus. Production for this season is set to begin in Thailand this month, featuring a new group of guests at a different White Lotus hotel.

Biković’s role was reportedly that of a Russian-speaking wellness guru. However, the casting decision faced backlash from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, citing Biković’s support for Russia amid the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian foreign ministry raised questions in a social media post, asking if it was acceptable to work with someone endorsing genocide and violating international law. The post also included a video showcasing Biković receiving the Pushkin Medal, a prestigious cultural award from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Subsequently, HBO announced its decision to part ways with Biković, stating that the role would be recast for the upcoming season of The White Lotus. The network confirmed Biković’s exit in a statement, citing the need for a different actor to fill the role.
