Los Angeles County’s district attorney is George Gascón, an American lawyer and former police officer. From 2011 until 2019, Gascón, a Democrat and former Republican, was San Francisco’s district attorney.

Gascón started working as a patrol officer with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1978. He went back to work in business management following a three-year tenure with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Gascón submitted his application to become Chief of Police of the Los Angeles Police Department in 2002. In order to lower California’s recidivism rate among ex-offenders, he wished to collaborate with community organizations. Finally, William Bratton was named Chief of Police.

When did George Gascon go to law school?

In 1987, he returned to LAPD as a full-time police officer. Upon his return, he rose through the ranks of LAPD as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Commander, and Deputy Chief in 2002. During his time with LAPD, Gascón earned his J.D. degree from Western State College of Law in 1996.
