Los Angeles County’s district attorney is George Gascón, an American attorney and former police officer. Gascón, a former Republican and member of the Democratic Party, was San Francisco’s district attorney from 2011 to 2019.

In 1978, Gascón became a patrol officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. After three years with the LAPD, he returned to his previous job in business management.
Gascón applied to be Chief of Police for the Los Angeles Police Department in 2002. He wished to collaborate with community organizations to minimize the recidivism rate among California’s prisoners. William Bratton was eventually appointed Police Chief.
