Despite receiving 10 nominations, “Killers of the Flower Moon” left the Oscars empty-handed on Sunday night.

As the curtains fell on the 2024 Oscars, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 10, there were few surprises.

The anticipated dominance of “Oppenheimer” came to fruition, sweeping seven awards during the ceremony.

However, there was a notable upset in the Best Actress category, where Emma Stone clinched the award for her role in “Poor Things” over Lily Gladstone’s performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Gladstone had been poised to make history as the first Native American to win in this category, echoing Michelle Yeoh’s groundbreaking win the previous year for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

While such occurrences are not uncommon in awards shows, the shutout was particularly significant given that it marked director Martin Scorsese’s third film to receive zero wins on Oscar night, following “Gangs of New York” in 2002 and “The Irishman” in 2019.

Scorsese, widely revered as one of the greatest directors of our time, enduring such a fate three times remains a puzzling anomaly.
