With Steve Borthwick’s selection policy precluding players based outside England from national team consideration, Tuilagi’s move to Bayonne effectively signals the conclusion of his illustrious Test career.

RugbyPass exclusively reported last Saturday that Tuilagi was expected to join Bayonne, and his arrival in the French club has now been finalized with the signing of a contract extending until the end of the 2025/2026 season.

Sale Sharks officially announced Tuilagi’s departure from the Gallagher Premiership club on Tuesday, confirming the widely speculated move. Two hours later, Bayonne confirmed the acquisition of Tuilagi through a social media post accompanied by a video.

“The recruits for 2024/2025 – Episode 7; England centre Manu Tuilagi has signed with Ciel & Blanc for the next two seasons. Welcome Manu!” Bayonne’s statement read.

Reflecting on his time at Sale Sharks, Tuilagi expressed gratitude for the experience and camaraderie he enjoyed at the club. He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision to depart but affirmed his commitment to ending his tenure on a high note.

“I have absolutely loved my time at Sale. It was a really tough conversation with Al (Sanderson), and a tough decision for everyone because my family and I have been really happy here,” Tuilagi stated.

As he embarks on this new chapter in his rugby journey with Bayonne, Tuilagi’s departure from Sale Sharks leaves behind a legacy of resilience, talent, and leadership. Bayonne supporters eagerly anticipate witnessing the impact of the renowned midfielder on their club as they welcome him into the fold.
