Bob Cole, whose iconic voice resonated through countless hockey games over a broadcasting career spanning more than half a century, has passed away at the age of 90.

Cole, renowned for his lively language and distinct commentary style, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 night in St. John’s, surrounded by his family, according to his daughter, Megan Cole.
“Thank you for decades of love for his work, love of Newfoundland and love of hockey,” Megan Cole shared with CBC News on Thursday.
Despite his age, Cole remained in good health until the very end, his daughter noted.

Known for his trademark call of “Oh, baby!”, Cole’s commentary was cherished by fans and players alike, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
“His legacy will be that the players adored him. That’s not easy,” remarked longtime Hockey Night in Canada host Ron MacLean.
“He always said the game’s the thing, not the show, but the players so respected him… He was comfortable. He was professional. He was talented.”
Cole’s illustrious career included calling some of the most memorable moments in Canadian sports history, notably Paul Henderson’s Summit Series goal in 1972 against the Soviet Union.
