Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured Ghanaians that they will have 100% ownership of the country’s natural resources if he is elected as President. Bawumia made this promise during his inaugural regional tour, where he engaged with religious leaders in the Eastern Region on April 29, 2024.

Bawumia stated that Ghana has not maximized the benefits of its natural resources, as resources like gold have been taken out of the country since the days of the Portuguese in the 15th century. He believes that Ghanaians have not truly benefited from these resources.
To address this, Bawumia plans to refocus the paradigm for natural resource management.

He intends to empower Ghana’s universities and the Geological Service Department to explore and discover the country’s untapped resources, such as the seven gold belts that have not yet been discovered.
Once these resources are identified, Bawumia’s new policy will ensure that the ownership of these resources will be 100% owned by Ghanaians. He believes that the current framework in the mining sector creates the perception that Ghanaians do not have full ownership of the country’s minerals.
Additionally, Bawumia assured that the current power challenges in Ghana will soon be a thing of the past. He stated that based on the information he has received from the Minister of Energy, these power issues will be resolved very soon.
