Former Nigerian footballer Ibrahim Babangida, a member of the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning team, tragically passed away in a fatal accident on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The accident, which occurred on the Kaduna-Zaria Road, also involved Ibrahim’s brother, Tijani Babangida, along with Tijani’s wife, son, and maid. All of them sustained severe injuries and are currently hospitalized.
Emmanuel Babayaro, another former Nigerian footballer, confirmed the incident, expressing the dire condition of those involved.

Ibrahim, aged 47 and a devout Muslim, was laid to rest on Friday, May 10, 2024, in Kaduna.
During his football career in Nigeria, Ibrahim played for various clubs including Bank of The North, Stationery Stores, and Katsina United. He later moved to Dutch side Volendam in 1997.
His most notable achievement came as a member of the Nigerian U-17 team that clinched the FIFA U-17 World Cup title in 1993.
