His arrest follows comments he made during an interview on Accra FM on May 10, 2024, where he admitted to being involved in a scheme to intimidate voters in the Volta region during the December 2016 elections by detonating dynamite.

According to reports from myjoyonline.com, Mr. Adorye is currently assisting the police with their investigations.

Supporters of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C) protested outside the Ministries Police Station on May 22, 2024, demanding Adorye’s release.

They allege that his arrest is politically motivated and aimed at silencing him to prevent further disclosures that could tarnish the party’s image.

Buaben Asamoa, a former Member of Parliament for Adentan, also spoke out against Adorye’s arrest, labeling it as a political witchhunt.

He claimed that Adorye was being detained over charges of publishing false information and criticized the government’s handling of the situation, suggesting that it reflects political bias.

The arrest of Hopeson Adorye has sparked debate and raised concerns about political interference and freedom of speech in Ghana.
