According to club deputy president Anass Mrabet, the players were part of a group of five who embarked on a yacht trip.

While swimming in deep waters, strong currents and heavy winds caused their yacht to drift away, leaving Salman Harraq and Abdellatif Akhrif unaccounted for.

“Three players were rescued on Saturday, but we continue to search for Salman Harraq and Abdellatif Akhrif,” Mrabet disclosed.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when the players, reportedly without buoys, jumped from the small yacht into the sea, unable to navigate the swift currents.

Abdellatif Akhrif, aged 24, is an established member of the squad, while 18-year-old Salman Harraq was on the brink of joining the senior team this season.

Ittihad Tanger, which has competed in Morocco’s top-flight league since 2015 and secured its sole league title in the 2017-18 season, has faced challenges in recent years, struggling to maintain its standing in the league.

Efforts to locate the missing players continue amidst deep concern and sorrow within the club and the broader football community.
