The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball in the United States and Canada, which has been played since 1903 between the winners of the American League and the National League.

The World Series champion is chosen by a best-of-seven playoff, and the winning club receives the Commissioner’s Trophy. Because the series is played in the fall in North America, it is also known as the Fall Classic.
For sponsorship reasons, it has been officially known as the World Series presented by YouTube TV from 2017.

Prior to the divisionalization of the American League and National League in 1969, the club with the best regular-season win-loss record in each league automatically advanced to the World Series, barring a tie that necessitated a pennant playoff.
Since then, each league has had a championship series to determine which clubs would proceed to the World Series, with those series being preceded by division series since 1995 and by wild card games in each league since 2012.
As of 2020, the World Series had been played 116 times, with the American League winning 66 and the National League winning 50.
