Billy Reed Cause Of Death

Legendary sportswriter and Kentucky-based journalist Billy Reed has died at Northern Suburban Hospital in Louisville from liver disease.

It was gathered that Reed who was 78 years old, had been in and out of hospitals since last summer.

He was a member of the Transylvania University Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame.

Reed was named Kentucky Sports Writer of the Year eight times during his illustrious career. He also wrote for publications including Sports Illustrated, the Lexington Herald-Leader, and the Courier-Journal while he was alive.

Reed was an authority on the Kentucky Derby and wrote about a multitude of sports over his career that spanned six decades.

He won the Eclipse Award three times and was an author of six books. In 2015, Reed served a term as president of the National Turf Writers Association.

He is survived by his two daughters, a son-in-law, and four grandchildren.
