Philip Hosterman married Bonnie Wallace in Peshawar, Pakistan and they had two daughters, Dove and Claire.

Philip Hosterman died by suicide on October 18, 2011.

At the time of his death, his daughter Dove was 15 years old and has been open about the impact his suicide has had on her life.

In 2017, she revealed that she changed her name to Dove — her father’s nickname for her — after his death to pay tribute.
