Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (mostly called by the simple name Rogue One) is a 2016 American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards.

Rogue One was produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is the first installment of the Star Wars anthology series and an immediate prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977).

Rogue One premiered in Los Angeles on December 10, 2016, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 16.

Rogue One grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it the 20th-highest-grossing film of all time and the second-highest-grossing film of 2016 during its theatrical run.

Rogue One also received two Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects.
