On December 4, 2007, Pimp C was discovered dead in his hotel room. The coroner’s report purportedly determined that his death was accidental, attributing it to Butler’s extensive use of “purple drank,” a combination of codeine and promethazine, combined with his pre-existing condition of sleep apnea.
Following Pimp C’s death, a slew of rappers paid tribute to him. Bun B has continued to pay tribute to Pimp C in his work, including the songs “You’re Everything” and “Pop It 4 Pimp” from his 2008 album II Trill, and the final UGK album, UGK 4 Life, released in 2009.
In tribute to Pimp C’s alter ego Tony Snow, Megan Thee Stallion named her 2018 EP Tina Snow.
