Susan Ellen “Zoe” Lofgren was born on December 21, 1947, in San Mateo, California, United States. Her mother Mary Violet was a school cafeteria employee, while her father Milton R. Lofgren worked as a beer truck driver. She went to Gunn High School (1966) in Palo Alto.
Zoe Lofgren earned her B.A. degree at Stanford University (1970) and then a Juris Doctor degree at Santa Clara University School of Law (1975). She has served on the House Judiciary Committee and has also chaired the House Administration Committee since the beginning of the 116th Congress.

Zoe Lofgren was the 16th district’s first female U.S. representative. She is in her 13th term in Congress and has been first elected in 1994. She was elected to the board of San Jose City College, as well as the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. She tied the knot with John Marshall Collins in 1978.
