Nathan MacKinnon is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League.

Nathan Raymond MacKinnon was born on September 1, 1995, in Halifax Regional Municipality, Canada. He was born to Graham Mackinnon and Kathy Mackinnon. He was raised alongside a sister named Sarah MacKinnon.
Nathan MacKinnon grew up playing in the minor ice hockey system of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. He played Bantam AAA for the Cole Harbour Red Wings at the ages of 12 and 13. He enrolled at Shattuck-Saint Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota but left to attend the Minnesota boarding school.
Nathan MacKinnon represented Nova Scotia in the ice hockey tournament at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. He was selected first overall by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Draft on June 4, 2011.

Nathan MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on October 2, 2013, in the 2013–14 season. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy for the rookie of the year on June 24, 2014, making him the youngest player to ever win this trophy as well as the third in Avalanche history.
Nathan MacKinnon was nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL’s most outstanding player in 2018 and was named a Hart Memorial Trophy finalist as the NHL’s most valuable player. He made appearances in movies and shows like Mr D, Trailer Park Boys, Trailer Park Boys: The Animated Series and a series of Tim Horton’s commercials.
