John Dwight Smith Sr. is an American outfielder who played in Major League Baseball between 1989 and 1996 with the Chicago Cubs, California Angels, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves. In 1995, he and the Braves won the World Series.

He passed away on Friday at the age of 58
Smith attended Wade Hampton High School and Spartanburg Methodist College in Varnville, South Carolina.
In 1989, he made his Major League Baseball debut for the Chicago Cubs. Smith lost to teammate Jerome Walton, who garnered 22 of the 24 first-place votes, in the voting for the National League Rookie of the Year.
