Schoenmaker completed her matric at TuksSport High School and subsequently graduated from the University of Pretoria with a bachelor’s degree in financial science.
The Johannesburg native began swimming at the age of 5. Schoenmaker had her first swimming competition when she was eight years old.
The South African swimmer has numerous gold and silver medals to her credit. Some of the records include a Gold medal in 200m breaststroke and silver medal in 100m breaststroke at the 2020 Olympic Games. Tatjana Schoenmaker holds the world record in the long course 200-meter breaststroke.
