Lydia de Vega Cause of Death

The cause of death of Lydia de Vega is cancer which she had been battling for four years. She was early diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2018 and had reportedly undergone brain surgery in July 2022.

Lydia de Vega passed away on August 10, 2022, in Makati, Bulacan, Philippines. Lydia de Vega was regarded as Asia’s fastest woman in the 1980s. Her father Francisco Tatang De Vega was her first coach.

Lydia de Vega was regarded as Asia’s sprint queen and won the gold medal in the 100-meter dash in the 1982 New Delhi Asiad. She repeated the feat in the 1986 Seoul Asiad where she clocked 11.53 seconds.

Lydia de Vega once broke her friend’s record after representing her in the Long Jumps. She took a break from athletics from 1989 until 1991 when she entered the 1991 Asian Athletics Championships and finished in seventh place.

In October 1994, Lydia de Vega retired after competing at the track and field event of the 1994 Manila-Fujian Games.
