Carril became varsity coach at Reading Senior High School in Reading, Pennsylvania, in 1958, where Gary Walters, the former Princeton University athletic director and former Princeton point guard, played high school basketball under him.
He also coached at Lehigh University and as an assistant with the Sacramento Kings in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
