The test flight is currently scheduled to launch on August 29, 2022, at 12:33 UTC from the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39B, where Apollo 10 launched 53 years ago.

If the rocket cannot launch on Monday, the next possible launch date is Friday, September 2 at 12:48 p.m. ET

Artemis 1 is also the agency’s first flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the entire Orion spacecraft.

Artemis 1 was supposed to launch in December 2016, but it was delayed at least sixteen times due to technical issues with the SLS and the Orion spacecraft.

Artemis 1 will last six weeks and will test all of the rocket stages and spacecraft used in subsequent Artemis missions.

The mission will deploy ten CubeSat satellites after reaching orbit and performing a trans-lunar injection and the Orion spacecraft will enter a distant retrograde orbit for six days.
