Kyle Van Noy attended McQueen High School in Reno where he was an all-state linebacker and receiver. He led his high school football team to a 4A state championship in 2008.

Kyle Van Noy played college football at Brigham Young University (BYU). As a freshman during the 2010 season, he started only two of all games he played. As a freshman, He recorded 35 tackles (24 solos), two forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery during the 2010 season.
Kyle Van Noy was third-team All-American in the 2012 season. In 2013, he was also named to the All-Independent first-team and was the All-Independent Defensive Player of the Year.
Kyle Van Noy finished the 2013 season All-America to Walter Camp Second-team, Athlon Sports Third-team, CBSSports.com Third-team and Sport and SI.com Honorable Mention.
