Born April 24, 1934 in Melbourne, Australia, Aylett played 220 games and kicked 311 goals for the Kangaroos, in a stellar playing career that earned him a spot in the club’s Team of the Century.

A two-time All-Australian and club captain between 1961 to 1964, Aylett won three consecutive Syd Barker Medals between 1958 and 1960.

However, a serious arm injury forced him into early retirement, becoming the North Melbourne president in 1971, revolutionising and modernising the club.

He brought in modern sponsorship deals, stimulated the club’s grand final breakfast and hired Ron Barassi as a coach which led to the club’s first VFL premiership in 1975.
