Nicholas Beverley Joicey CB is the Director General for Finance at the Department for Work and Pensions. He is married to Rachel Reeves a politician and economist who has served as Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer since 2021.

The couple have homes in Leeds and London. Reeves announced her first pregnancy on 20 September 2012, and gave birth to a daughter. She also gave birth to a son in 2015

Nicholas Joicey previously served as Defra’s Director General for Strategy, International, and Finance. He earned a history degree at Bristol University and then a PhD at Peterhouse, Cambridge.

He previously worked as Gordon Brown’s private secretary and speechwriter, as a journalist for The Observer, and as the director of the International Department at HM Treasury.
Nicholas Joicey’s interests include modern history and film and he is a trustee of the Cambridge Film Trust
Joicey was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for her environmental work.
