Lucy Simon Parents: Meet Richard L. Simon and Andrea Heinemann Simon

Lucy Simon was an American composer of theatre and popular songs. She was the daughter of Richard L. Simon and Andrea Simon.

Her father Richard L. Simon was a book publisher. He was a Columbia University graduate and co-founder of the publishing house Simon & Schuster.

Her father came from a Jewish family in Germany, and her maternal grandfather Friedrich was also of German descent.

Lucy Simon’s mother Andrea Simon worked as a switchboard operator at Simon & Schuster. She was in Philadelphia, Andrea was the daughter of a Cuban-born mother, Asuncion Maria del Rio, and a German-speaking Swiss father.

Lucy’s maternal grandmother, known as “Chibie,” was a Catholic from Cuba with pardo ancestry. Her grandmother was sent to England and was raised by nuns until she was sixteen years old.

Lucy Simon’s father Richard L. Simon died in 1960 after suffering a heart attack. her mother died of lung cancer at her Riverdale home at the age of 84 in 1994.
