Marjorie Wheeler was the wife of Charles Wheeler an American politician who served as a Missouri state senator and mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, from 1971 to 1979, among other positions.

The couple were married for over 7 decades before Marjorie’s death. They had five children together.  Charles Wheeler passed away at the age of 96 on October 25, 2022.

Wheeler served in the United States Navy from March 1944 to February 1946. He enrolled at the University of Kansas in 1946 and received his M.D. in 1950.

Wheeler’s public career began in January 1965, when he was elected Coroner of Jackson County, Missouri. He held that position until January 1967, when he was elected as Judge of the Jackson County Court’s Western District until January 1971.

He was elected to two consecutive terms as mayor of Kansas City in 1971.  He oversaw the financing and construction of both the Kemper Arena and the Bartle Hall Convention Center during his tenure.

Charles Wheeler received the American Medical Association Benjamin Rush Award in 1981, the UMKC Lifetime Achievement Award in 1984, and the University of Kansas Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1997.
