Bob Geldof is an Irish singer, songwriter, and political activist, well known for the Irish rock band the Boomtown Rats.
Born on October 5, 1951, in Dun Laoghaire, Geldof became famous in the late 1970s with his hit songs “Rat Trap”, “I Don’t Like Mondays”, and “They know it’s Christmas”, which he co-wrote.

As a political activist, Geldof led movements against poverty in Africa, and founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise funds to tackle famine in Ethiopia.
He also spearheaded the charity super-concert Live Aid and the Live 8 concerts.
Geldof, together with fellow Irish rock singer and activist Bono, established the ONE Campaign, and remains at the forefront of advocating for sustainable development in Africa.
Geldof has received several awards for his charity work in Africa such as an honorary knighthood (KBE) by Elizabeth II in 1986, the Man of Peace Award in 2005, and the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
