My name is Deena Kathleen. My father was a huge fan of Danny Kaye. He and my mother were married May 5, 1945 in Bell Gardens, CA. He was still in the Navy until December 25, 1946. He was posted home, bought a dump truck and went to work in the oil fields near Bakersfield, CA, which was his home. In due time my mother was expecting. My name had been decided as Stephen Charles. But my father, anticipating that I might be a girl, scratched on the dashboard of his dump truck, just in case, the name ‘Deena’, because he liked Danny Kaye, but didn’t know how to spell his daughter’s name. Just a tidbit of info, illustrating the far ranging effects that Mr Kaye had on society and the American culture.
