Why Are They Called The Regina Pats?

The Regina Pats earned their name from the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.

The team was first called the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, and is the oldest junior hockey club in the world.

About The Regina Pats

The Regina Pats are a junior ice hockey team of the Western Hockey League.

The Pats are still the first major junior hockey team in the world to have used their original home and the same name for continuous operations.

Regina Pats which plays for the Western Hockey League, won the WHL championships in 1974 and 1980, and won the Memorial Cup championship on four occasions between 1925 and 1974.

Founded in 1917, the team holds the record for the most appearance at the Memorial Cup.

The Pats have also won the western Canadian junior hockey championships 14 times, which includes the Abbott Cup.

In 1918, the team won the Saskatchewan junior hockey championship, and additionally won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy in 1973, 1974, 2016 and 2017.

The team is currently owned by Brandt owners Shaun and Gavin Semple.

John Paddock serves as the general manager and head coach; while Brad Herauf and Ken Schneider serve as assistant coaches.
