Kit Hesketh-Harvey was a British singer, translator, composer, and scriptwriter who lived from 30 April 1957 until 1 February 2023. After serving as a staff producer for the BBC-TV Music and Arts Department for six years, Hesketh-Harvey left to work on the script for Merchant Ivory’s Maurice (1987). He later studied with Stephen Sondheim, who had been appointed to the Cameron Mackintosh visiting professorship in Contemporary Theatre at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, after winning the 1988 Vivian Ellis Award for musical theater authors.

He contributed to the BBC’s Vicar of Dibley series. He was the author of the Rowan Atkinson-starring films Full Throttle and Hans Andersen: My Life as a Fairytale (Hallmark). The Lost Explorer, a movie directed by Tim Walker, with a script that he co-wrote.

Born into a Foreign Office family in Nyasaland (now Malawi), he received his education at Tonbridge School in Kent before moving on to Canterbury Cathedral as a senior chorister. He received a choral scholarship to Clare College in Cambridge, where he studied under John Rutter and joined the Footlights, as well as an Exhibition in English Literature.
