He was discovered by scouts from the Olympique Lyonnais academy in 2009 when he was just 14 years old, and he entered the program that same year. His 32 goals in 21 games during his second season with the Under-17 team earned him a call-up to the France national under-17 football team for the 2012 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Slovenia.

In a Europa League group stage encounter against Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona on December 6, 2012, he made his professional debut for Lyon, taking Yassine Benzia’s place for the final 10 minutes of a 2-0 victory at the Stade de Gerland. In a 3-1 loss on the road against Ajaccio on February 3, 2013, he played his first Ligue 1 match as a substitute in the 79th minute. That season, he had two more bench appearances.
