Russian-born American pianist, Vladimir Horowitz was best known for his performances of the Romantic piano repertoire. His first recording of the Liszt Sonata in B minor has been considered by many to be the definitive reading of that piece and has been performed over 100 times even after 80 years.

He was considered one of the greatest pianists of all time and was known for his virtuoso technique, tone color, and the public excitement engendered by his playing. He allegedly preferred to perform on Sunday afternoons because he felt audiences were better rested and more attentive than on weekday evenings.
