American jazz drummer Harvey William Mason, a record producer, and a member of the band Fourplay were all born on February 22, 1947.

At Berklee’s 2015 Commencement Ceremony, Mason, who attended the school in the 1960s, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his musical success and influence, as well as his long-lasting contributions to American and global culture.

Mason was raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he was born and raised. He graduated from Atlantic City High School. With the encouragement of his father, a drummer in the army band, he started playing the drums at the age of four.
