Dennis Franz Schlachta, also known as Dennis Franz, is a retired American actor best known for his role as NYPD Detective Andy Sipowicz in the ABC television series NYPD Blue (1993–2005).

For this role, he won a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards. Dennis Franz Schlachta was born on October 28, 1944. Franz started acting at Chicago’s Organic Theater Company, where he was initially typecast as a police officer. Franz and Joanie Zeck met in 1982 and got married in 1995. His two stepdaughters from Zeck’s first marriage are raised by him. Much isn’t known about her besides being the supportive wife of Franz.
