Mexican-American actor Manuel Antonio Rodolfo Quinn Oaxaca, better known by his stage name Anthony Quinn, was born on April 21, 1915, and passed away on June 3, 2001. He was well known for portraying earthy, passionate characters in a series of critically praised films produced in Hollywood and outside the country that were “marked by a raw and primordial virility.”

Some of his well-known films are Lawrence of Arabia, The Guns of Navarone, Guns for San Sebastian, The Shoes of the Fisherman, The Message, Lion of the Desert, Jungle Fever, and “Seven Servants.” He received an Oscar nod for his portrayal of Zorba the Greek in the film.
Quinn won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor on two different occasions, for the films Viva Zapata! in 1952 and Lust for Life in 1956.
