Zach Mercer, an English-born professional rugby union player who plays for Montpellier in the Top 14 league, was born on June 28, 1997. When Mercer was eight years old, his family moved to Scotland, thus he spent his formative years in Leeds, where he played junior rugby with Old Brodleians.

In spite of being selected for England’s Six Nations Championship team in 2018, Mercer didn’t play until a non-test match against the Barbarians in May of that same year. Mercer, who started the game at position eight, scored a try in the opening period, but the seasoned Barbarians team overcame England.

Mercer eventually won a spot in the starting lineup for England’s Autumn Internationals match against South Africa in 2018, when he made his official test debut, as a result of his excellent performances. Eddie Jones, the head coach of England’s national rugby union team, has said that Mercer will make his test debut against Japan in the 2018 Autumn Internationals.
Why is Zach Mercer leaving Bath?
Even though Bath’s director of rugby, Stuart Hooper, is undoubtedly unhappy about losing his No. 8, he is going on good terms. Mercer describes their split as amicable. “I have to give Bath credit; they haven’t done anything wrong,” he says.
Where is Zach Mercer moving to?
Zach Mercer will join the Gloucester Rugby Gallagher Premiership squad before the 2023–24 season, the club has announced. Mercer will go to Kingsholm in 2022 after joining Montpellier in 2021 and helping them to their first Top 14 title.
